Sun Microsystems' (NASDAQ:SUNW) CEO Scott McNealy Wednesday forecasted a future where consumers won't care about software, but only services. "There is no software industry (in the future) and there should not be one," McNealy said during his morning keynote at Comdex. "If you believe in the Hoover dam rather than a well in everyone's back yard -- then the computing industry is going to look much more like the telephone industry." Sun will launch its own StarPortal to serve up an Office-like suite of applications over the Internet early next year; Microsoft. has already reacted, saying it will offer Office applications as services over the Web as well. -- Rob Lemos, ZDNN
