The Internet Advertising Group (IAG) is backed by a raft of media and other heavyweights including the BBC, Microsoft, the Financial Times, News International, America Online, Channel 4, CompuServe, Yahoo!, Sky and ZDNet News publisher Ziff-Davis.

It will conduct research to establish the true size and impact of Web advertising, and plans to affiliate with the European part of the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) at its first meeting in London to be held this Wednesday, October 22.

"With so many of the major players as members we will represent around 90 per cent of UK Internet advertising revenue and will be a real force in shaping the industry," said Channel 4 business development manager Mark Lesbirel.
