in brief Medicare has launched an online claims history service so people can check the status of their claims.

"The online service through Medicare Australia allows people to view, save and print a record of their Medicare claims history statement for the past 12 months from the date of request," Minister for Human Services Senator Joe Ludwig said in a statement.

The services will be a boon to patients who see doctors and specialists regularly by helping them keep track of the medical visits and procedures they have claimed for, according to Minister for Health and Aging Nicola Roxon.

People wishing to use the service need to register for online Medicare services at www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/online. Patients using the online services can also request a replacement Medicare card, see their Medicare Safety Net balance, their child's immunisation history statement, their organ donor registration details, Medicare tax statement and other health information.
