Melbourne Airport gets new Cisco network
in brief Melbourne Airport's T2 international terminal has received an infrastructure upgrade, courtesy of a partnership between Cisco and The Frame Group, that intends to simplify the flying experience for passengers.
The terminal gains a new outdoor wireless network at each gate so pilots could transfer information to flight control prior to gate arrival, over 800 IP phones for airport staff to update and manage flight information, and a new network to allow the airport to charge its commercial tenants for access to data, voice and video services.
"By working together with Cisco and The Frame Group, Melbourne Airport aims to deliver to Victoria a modern, high-quality and innovative airport that will give passengers the most efficient travel experience," Mark Funston, Melbourne Airport's information technology manager said in a statement.
Les Williamson, vice president of Cisco Australia and New Zealand said, "Melbourne Airport is at the forefront of streamlining operations and capitalising on emerging customer service opportunities through an open IT architecture that integrates existing systems as well as new technologies such as video."
