Melbourne IT has partnered with Trend Micro to provide customers with scalable security for its Amazon Web Services (AWS) service.

Peter Wright, executive general manager for enterprise services of Melbourne IT, said security is a priority for organisations looking to operate in the cloud, and the complexities of managing secure and flexible workloads are a key challenge for businesses.

"Organisations continue to form more intimate and targeted engagements with their customers and suppliers using technology. As a result more and more applications that integrate with back office systems are being deployed into the cloud and therefore outside of the traditional physical security controls of the organisation," he said.

"Application security has become an imperative for Australian governments and businesses. Most applications continue to change over time so the ability to maintain application security rules for ongoing protection is increasingly important."

Wright highlights data sovereignty continues to be a key issue for Australian organisations where they favour cloud solutions when data is maintained in Australia.

As part of the strategy partnership, Melbourne IT will leverage Trend Micro Deep Security to provide additional layers of security to its customers' cloud environments.

"We're pleased to be working with Melbourne IT to help customers confidently and securely move to the cloud through a managed AWS service," Greg Boyle, director, strategic business and alliances at Trend Micro Australia and New Zealand, said in a statement.

"As AWS continues to gain momentum, we plan to work with Melbourne IT to deliver security that is smart, simple to use and fits the way organisations operate in the cloud."
