There's turmoil at the right-wing British National Party today after personal information on 10,000 members was published on the Web, The Times reports. Names, addresses, telephone numbers and professions were published. The members include teachers, scientists, a government employee and at least one serving police officer. The officer faces dismissal for belonging to the group, since the Association of Chief Police Officers ruled that officers can be fired for joining groups at odds with the duty to promote racial equality. Spokesman Simon Darby said the perpetrator was probably a disgruntled former member, who should not be "sleeping well tonight." The party had previously won an injunctino against a former member from publishing the names.

If we find out the name of the person who published this list it will turn out to be one of the most foolish things they have done in their life. I wouldn’t want to have done that – I wouldn’t be sleeping very well tonight. We are worried because children’s names are on the list. No true nationalist would have put the lives and livelihoods of fellow nationalists at risk.
The NorthWestNationalists blog said the perpetrator was John Walker, former BNP treasurer, who was fired in September.
