Bill Gates may be on top of Forbes list of richest people. But two stories in today's news make it evident that Michael Dell may now be the boss when it comes to the computer business. The first of these, discussed below is a story about how AMD has been waiting for years for "anointment" by King Michael. The second of these is about the ascension of Novell's SuSE Linux to Dell's coveted factory-preinstall list. Let's face it. If you're an OS vendor (Microsoft, Red Hat, Novell, Sun, etc.), a microprocessor vendor (AMD, Intel, Transmeta, etc.), a storage vendor like EMC, a printer vendor like Lexmark, a server software maker like Oracle or SAP, or the manufacturer of some other important silicon (eg: Agere for Wi-Fi), there is no single man in industry right now that is more important to your business than Michael Dell. Not bad for a guy that started building systems out of his college dorm room.
