I'll be taking Mint 12 for a spin over the next few days and will give you my first impressions on this new release. For now, I'll just cover the new stuff.

And there's a lot of new stuff in Mint 12 to explore!

Gnome 3 and MGSE

Brand new desktop featuring the MGSE (Mint Gnome Shell Extensions) is a desktop layer on top of Gnome 3. Don't want MGSE? The you can disable it.


A fork of Gnome 2 that's compatible with Gnome 3. If you want, you can run both!

Note: MATE is available on the DVD edition of Linux Mint 12. CD edition users will need to install it via the mint-meta-mate package. Also note that MATE is not completely stable yet, and is missing a few parts.

Improved artwork and graphics

Two new themes.

New search engine default

Duck Duck Go is in as the new default.
