Twenty groups from movie, music, software, publishing and sports industries filed a brief Friday urging a federal appeals court to uphold a decision that could shut down Napster Inc.

Motion Picture Association of America President Jack Valenti said Napster's song-sharing service promoted theft of copyrighted materials.
