Motorola rolls PowerPC into UK

Motorola's Mac clones are ready to roll. The firm's PowerPC-based StarMax systems will debut in the UK at the end of November.

The StarMax entry-level 3000 and top-end 4000 series use PowerPC 603e and 604e chips, respectively, and come in mini-tower or desktop cases.

The StarMax 3000 has a standard configuration of 256Kb L2 cache, 16Mb RAM, 1.2Gb hard drive and three PCI slots. The mini-tower option offers 32Mb RAM, 2.5Gb hard drive and five PCI slots.

Motorola's StarMax 4000 contains 512Kb L2 cache, 16MB RAM, 2Mb to 4Mb video EDO DRAM, 1.2Gb hard drive and three PCI slots. The mini-tower has a similar configuration, adding 32Mb RAM, a 2.5Gb hard drive and five PCI slots. Prices are expected to start at £1,299.
