Native Facebook app for Palm OS smartphones

Palm have released a native Facebook client for its latest line of PalmOS-based Centro and Treo smartphones -- a move that is perhaps overdue considering that the Centro is aimed squarely at consumers and has been a hit with the youth market.

TheFacebook for Palm application can be used to:

  • Send and receive messages
  • View and post status updates
  • View and post photos from your smartphone
  • See your friends’ profiles and photos
  • Read and write Wall posts
  • View News Feed
  • Upload videos taken from your Palm smartphone
  • Use a mobile “Contacts” tab that aggregates friends phone numbers – view your list of friends and dial or text them directly

Officially, the software is only compatible with the Palm Centro (now available on Verizon Wireless), Treo 755p and Treo 680 smartphones, though some users have reported success at installing "Facebook for Palm" on the older Treo 700p model.

Of course, the iPhone is grabbing all of the consumer smartphone headlines at the moment, and although Facebook themselves have rolled out a fantastic browser-based version of the site optimized for Apple's device, the iPhone doesn't yet have a native Facebook client.

Palm's Facebook client joins an existing version for Blackberry released earlier this year.
