A technical fault has affected transactions for a number of Natwest, Ulsterbank, and RBS customers, leaving some unable to use on and offline banking services.
The fault meant that RBS, Natwest and Ulsterbank systems failed to properly update customers' balances overnight, leading to problems for customers expecting money to go in or out of accounts today, an RBS spokeswoman told ZDNet UK on Thursday. Transactions such as Direct Debit were also affected.
RBS, which owns Natwest and Ulsterbank, said that both corporate and personal banking customers had been affected.
"We can assure our customers that this problem is strictly of a technical nature and will be fixed as soon as possible," RBS said in a statement. "We can also confirm that no customers will be permanently out of pocket as a result of this."
Over 1,000 NatWest branches in major towns and cities will stay open until 7pm on Thursday for customers who have been adversely affected by the technical fault.
RBS declined to provide further details of the nature of the fault at the time of writing.
