Elonex will next month step up its entry-level efforts by releasing a 166MHz version of the Cyrix MediaGX-based Lumina small footprint desktop, the firm said yesterday at the Networks '97 show in Birmingham.

The Lumina costs just £450 + VAT without monitor, a price enabled by the chip combining sound, graphics and CPU on a single chip.

At the same time, Elonex will track rival Dell by going full steam ahead to pull in punters who want to buy over the Web. It is already offering limited options on its Web site today.

Separately, the UK direct seller showed off its Disaster Recovery Direct division. "We're already gathering some big contracts," said Demtre Cheras, systems director of marketing. "It's a very substantial part of our business."
