The trial will include UK's first implementation of cable modem to ADSL modem links
Written by Justin Pearse, Contributor

Cable company NTL on Monday announced plans to begin UK ADSL trials in association with telecommunications firm Alcatel. The trial will include the UK's first implementation of cable modem to ADSL modem links.

The trail is being offered to businesses in NTL's Woking and Guildford area. It will provide ADSL links from head office buildings to branch offices through a wide area network. The company also plans to trial an ADSL package for teleworkers. This will offer direct access via cable modems to their ADSL linked company's office network.

ADSL will be supplied over NTL's copper wire telephone network and will offer speeds of up to 6 Mb/s. Alcatel will be providing the Mini-Ram equipment required on the network nodes and will install its Speed Touch ADSL modems at customers' sites.

Pricing will be determined on the applications involved for each customer.
