New economy means new business models

SINGAPORE, 7th June 2000 -- The advent of the New Economy brings new ways of doing business, new infrastructures. This point was emphasized again and again at the eBiz2000 conference, part of the ongoing Communicasia 2000 expoin Singapore.

SINGAPORE, 7th June 2000 -- The advent of the New Economy brings new ways of doing business, new infrastructures. This point was emphasized again and again at the eBiz2000 conference, part of the ongoing Communicasia 2000 expo in Singapore.

New business models, as well as new ways of doing business, was the thrust for the first half of the day at the summit. New technologies would have various implications for companies' business models, said Montgomery Hong, from Andersen Consulting. Wireless telcos would be affected most, he said. Value chains would start to disintegrate, and newer, flexible business models would arise to replace older ones.

"Mobile commerce is nothing other than doing business over the Internet with wireless technology," he said. The key question for wireless telcos, noted Hong was how to capture new value. Hong also noted that there was a trend leaning towards the exponential growth of alliances between companies, such as Cisco Systems.
