New product testing platform illustrates Appirio's crowdsourced development capabilities

Summary:Working in collaboration with the TopCoder community, Mesh01 was able to introduce a new feedback site in three months.

How powerful is crowdsourced development? Integrator Appirio is talking up a great example of how the TopCoder approach can speed time to market: a new product testing and feedback site from MESH01 that was created in just three months.

The MESH01 site is targeted at brands who need commentary from testers during product design cycles and launches. Using TopCoder, the organization created it in about half the time that it originally anticipated -- the stack behind it included AngularJS, Node and MongoDB on top of the Heroku cloud application platform.

"The work that TopCoder completed in three months was equivalent to approximately 15 full-time developers, and the community delivered a platform at nearly half of our estimated cost," said Brian Bednarek, CEO of MESH01.

Appirio acquired TopCoder in September , creating a community of about 600,000 developers with experience in various cloud, social and mobile technology disciplines.

To organize the MESH01 project, a TopCoder architect broke it down into more than 100 different contests, to surface the best design approaches. The final version includes contributions from more than 30 TopCoder members; the code was combined by the TopCoder architects.
