News Burst: DSL privacy blunder by Fastpoint

Fastpoint Communications, one of the shining lights of DSL (digital subscriber line) provision in the States, says it will have to change the way in which it has set up all of its user accounts in order to protect customer identity.

Due to a remarkable oversight, Fastpoint saw nothing wrong in assigning users' first and last names to its IP addresses -- e.g. davewilby.fastpoint.net. That is until now.

Fastpoint says it is renumbering all addresses immediately.
