News Burst: Ericsson scales back on handset production

Swedish phone maker to concentrate more on the network business

According to reports Ericsson is expected to announce a withdrawal from mobile phone handset manufacturing -- to concentrate on the more lucrative network side of the business.

The Swedish giant, currently number three in the world market for mobile phones, has taken an early lead in winning the contracts to build 3G network infrastructure, a market believed to be worth billions of pounds in the the years ahead.
