News Burst: GTS launches streaming media service

Now you can enjoy all the delights of GMTV on the Internet
Written by Graeme Wearden, Contributor

A partnership announced Tuesday between Global TeleSystems (GTS), Microsoft and Compaq will enable European TV broadcasters to simultaneously transmit their content online as a video stream.

The service is already live, with Good Morning TV (GMTV) the first to take advantage of it.

Starting Tuesday, GMTV will be simultaneously broadcast on TV and the Net. GTS is confident that other programmers will soon follow suit, with news, music and sport seen as the "killer" sectors.

The new service will use Microsoft's digital rights software, and run on Compaq's servers.
