News Burst: Microsoft R&D to hit $3 billion
Microsoft CEO Bill Gates projected the company's research and development spending in excess of $3bn (£1.82bn) for the coming fiscal year ending July 1999.
This is an increase from $2.5bn (£1.55bn) in its last fiscal year.
