Amsterdam marijuana delivery service's launch goes to pot

Amsterdam's first Internet weed startup iToke announced it was cancelling the launch of its service Friday.

Hostile reaction from local drug sellers and "coffee shops", and overwhelming press interest -- which the company had hoped to avoid -- were given as reasons for the cancellation.

Had the service launched customers would have been able to order cannabis via land lines, fax or WAP phones, and using prepaid "iTokens" in kiosks scattered around the Dutch capital. Orders would then have been delivered by bike couriers.

Cofounder Tim Freccia told ITN Online: "I think there was a lot of mistrust in Amsterdam where they saw us as embodying the Amazon-isation of pot."
