Super Mario Run will be available for free starting December 15, Nintendo announced on Tuesday. An in-app purchase of $9.99 will unlock the game in its entirety, after players have had a chance to try out the three various game modes.

The first Super Mario Bros. game for a mobile device was announced in September at Apple's iPhone event, and is an iOS exclusive for the time being.

You will need to have an iOS device running iOS 8.0 or later to collect coins, smash enemies, and jump through the new levels in Super Mario Run.

Eventually Super Mario Run will reach 151 countries, with language support for English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, and traditional Chinese. A complete list of countries where Super Mario Run will be available is posted here.

You can sign up to receive an alert when the game is available by visiting the App Store listing and enabling alerts, or by visiting the Super Mario Run website and entering your email address.
