Nokia has released a new LinkedIn app for Symbian smartphones.

The app, unveiled on Tuesday, targets what was until recently known as the Symbian^3 distribution of the operating system, which Nokia is phasing out over the next couple of years in favour of Microsoft's Windows Phone, and subsequent releases.

In a blog post, Nokia said the free app would allow users of the business-oriented social network to "send and receive messages from their connections, add new ones, respond to invitations, browse profiles, view and compose status updates".

According to Nokia, the app was created using Nokia's Qt graphical toolkit with the LinkedIn Platform development toolkit, which lets external apps access the LinkedIn network.
