Search provider Northern Light says it has raised $20 million in a round of financing led by former Microsoft executive Gregory Whitten. Whitten, who was Microsoft's chief software architect for 19 years, will become chairman of the board at Northern Light.

The 6-year-old company, based in Cambridge, Mass., also said it launched a Web site for businesses to access information on corporate information portals, including industry trends, measurement strategies and intranet security. The privately held company provides search services for consumers as well as content work for companies.
