How are the major notebook OEMs dealing with the thermal issues affecting some NVIDIA GPUs?

Both Dell and HP have admitted that there is a problem with a batch of NVIDIA GPUs and have taken steps to make sure that customers don't lose out as a result of this (through extending warranties and offering BIOS updates that attempt to reduce the chances of the GPU failing due to heat).

A few days ago I contacted representatives from a number of the major notebook OEMs which use NVIDIA GPUs to find out if the companies have a statement for customers who might be worried and future problems. Here are the response I have received to my enquiries thus far:

  • Acer - The spokesperson who responded to me wasn't aware of any issues but promised to look into the matter further.
  • Apple - No reply.
  • Lenovo - "We are not experiencing unusual failure patterns on our notebooks that utilize Nvidia graphics devices. We are working closely with Nvidia to ensure that our relevant notebooks remain unaffected by the failures experienced by other notebook suppliers. "
  • Sony - No reply.

I'll update this post with additional information as I receive it.
