Number 10 has launched a transparency website to help the electorate track government departments' progress on policy implementation.

The website, currently in beta, contains three major sections: 'Business Plans', which shows government departments' policy goals and their progress on meeting them; 'Who does what in Whitehall', which outlines the name, job title and salary information for senior civil servants and 'Who ministers are meeting', which details ministers' meetings, hospitality, gifts and overseas travel.

"The whole coalition government strategy is about opening up information and providing fairer access to the public," a Cabinet Office spokeswoman told ZDNet UK on Monday. The site sits alongside government dataset repository Data.gov as part of the coalition's transparency strategy, she said.

Two further sections are due to go live, with 'How your money is spent' slated for later in November and 'Government contracts in full' coming in the new year. There is also a section entitled 'Find all other government data' which collates various major statistics from government departments, though is sparsely populated at the time of writing.

The website will be updated on the last Friday of each month by an internal Cabinet Office digital communications team, the spokeswoman said. The team will also moderate comments, the spokeswoman added.
