Opera Software, a Web browser developer based in Oslo, Norway, released Opera 6 for the Macintosh. The software works with Mac OS versions 8.6 to 10.2.2, making it Opera's first release for Mac OS X.

Opera said the new release was faster and had a better user interface than Opera 5 for the Mac. The browser, available from Opera's Web site, costs $29, including a time-limited $10 discount. A free version with advertising is also available. --Paul Festa, Special to ZDNet News
