Opera Mini 4 beta ready to download
The latest Opera Mini browser beta is now available for download.
The zoom feature (see gallery at left) is based on what Opera developed for the Nintendo Wii. When zooming the Mini allows you to navigate a page with simple scrolling. I have used the latest Mini browser for a few days on a loaner phone and it's infinitely better than the usual IE-based mobile browsing. Unfortunately, the browser isn't available on my Verizon Wireless Motorola Q.
Opera's statement outlines the details of the Mini, code-named Dimension. Techmeme rounds up other reaction on the browser.
Some key features aside from the zoom feature, which provides you a Web page overview:
- When you download a page Opera suggests the best place to start reading;
- Opera automatically resizes images and text to make it easy to read;
- A virtual mouse;
- A fit to screen feature that cuts down on the scrolling;
- And sheer speed as noted in Opera's benchmark's below.
Here's a simulator to take Opera for a spin.
