Optus has chosen former BlackBerry Australia managing director Matthew Ball as its new head of Small and Medium Business (SMB), managing director of Optus Wholesale, Satellite, and SMB Rob Parcell announced to Optus staff this morning.

According to Parcell, the appointment of Ball demonstrates Optus' renewed focus on the SMB segment.

"With a wealth of SOHO, SMB, consumer, and enterprise experience coupled with retail distribution and marketing expertise, Matthew will lead our team as Optus refocuses our priority on the small and medium business segment," Parcell said.

"Small business no longer needs a simple landline and fax machine. They need the tools to analyse their customer bases spending patterns, they want digital displays, content, and customer Wi-Fi in their shops, or the seamless fulfilment of stock. They want to be able to store data in the cloud and enjoy a service experience that is tailored to their needs.

"We know we are doing a lot of great things for our SMB customers, and we know Matthew will continue to drive our momentum in the SMB space."

Ball will commence at Optus on May 30.
