Oracle on Monday took the wraps off its Fusion applications, a software suite that's designed to give all of those acquired PeopleSoft, Siebel and J.D. Edwards customers an upgrade path.
Fusion has been talked about for years and now has finally hit the market in a complete form. In a nutshell, Fusion is a parallel path that rides along with Oracle software. Oracle is hoping that customers will ultimately move to Fusion. Of course, Oracle will allow you to stay on existing apps too.
Add it up and we have an interesting sell job here. Can Oracle dangle enough goodies to get customers to upgrade?
Among the key points:
- Fusion is built on open standards.
- Has multiple modules and can be bought as a suite. There are 100 modules in 7 product families ranging from financials to procurement to CRM to supply chain to governance.
- Fusion has embedded business intelligence, much like SAP is doing with Business Objects.
What remains to be seen is whether customers go to Fusion piecemeal, all at once or consider it a distinct upgrade that would invite an SAP bake off. Time will tell. Here's the lineup.
