Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus reviews and Verizon pricing

The Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus for Verizon Wireless were announced at CES a couple of weeks ago and the embargoes on reviews lifted late last night, along with the pricing for the Verizon network. I highly recommend you check out the amazing coverage over at PreCentral.net where they have covered every detail on the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus. There are very few physical differences in these two devices, such as double the integrated memory, loss of button on the Pre Plus, and inclusion of WiFi on the Pixi Plus. These devices will be available next week, 25 January, with the Pre Plus selling for $149.99 after $100 rebate and 2-year contract and the Pixi Plus selling for $99 after $100 rebate and 2-year contract.

If you want to use the new Mobile Hotspot WiFi tethering service, it will cost you an additional $40 per month. I was thinking about switching my $59.99 MiFi service to a Palm Pre Plus, but this would take my monthly fees from $60/month to over $110 because the minimum plan for the Pre Plus is $39.99 for 450 voice minutes (no text) and $29.99 for data. Unlimited texting is an additional $20 too. No thanks, I will stick with my $60 MiFi and use WiFi on my smartphones for wireless data needs. If you are currently a Verizon customer or new customer without another service like me, then the $40 more per month for the WiFi tethering option may be quite attractive. I still think it is a shame that you cannot just use your 5GB allowance any way you want (tethered or untethered) and that carriers charge additional fees for no additional service.

Verizon also will charge you an additional $9.99 per month if you want to use the Verizon Navigator GPS service on your Palm Pre Plus or Pixi Plus. Sprint definitely has the MUCH better deal on the Palm Pre and Pixi when it comes to monthly service fees and provided services such as free navigation, NFL Mobile, and more. Any readers planning to pick up a Palm Pre Plus or Pixi Plus?
