SINGAPORE--Palo Alto Networks has named Singapore its first Asia-Pacific headquarters and opened a new cybersecurity lab in the country to address the region's growing security threats.
The network security vendor said the new headquarters as well as lab will allow its customers to learn more about the products and technology it offers, including in the areas of advanced persistent threat (APT), firewall, and URL filtering. In a statement released Thursday, Palo Alto Networks said its lab provides product demos as well as proof-of-concept testing.
Noting that the Asia-Pacific region is a key market for the company, CEO Mark McLaughlin noted that its business has "significantly strengthened" since first setting base here in 2009.
Sharat Sinha, Asia-Pacific vice president for Palo Alto Networks, added: "The region is home to the highest number of internet users in the world, with exponential growth in online banking, shopping, and social media activity, making it a prime target for cybercriminals."
Sinha said the company's new Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore will allow the security vendor to extend its regional operations and better serve the needs of its customers in this region.
Both facilities will serve client base in this region which includes Asean, Greater China, india, Australia/New Zealand, as well as Japan, a company spokesperson told ZDNet, who noted that about 15 to 18 percent of its customers are based in the region. Palo Alto Networks has 12 offices in Asia-Pacific.
The Singapore office here will oversee its regional operations and personnel, including expert technicians, systems engineers, as well as employees in product management, human resources, and marketing. The spokesperson declined to reveal how much it has invested or will be investing in the two facilities.
The NYSE-listed company currently employs over 1,300 employees globally, supporting more than 16,000 customers in over 120 countries. Apart from Singapore, it also has offices in other Asia-Pacific markets including China, India. Thailand, and South Korea.
In its recent second-quarter earnings, Palo Alto Networks on revenue of US$141.1 million which climbed 46 percent year-on-year.
