PayPal jumping on holiday season with new promo tactics

Summary:PayPal is probably hoping that the holiday season and new promo tactics will help recoup some recent losses.

PayPal just suffered a major loss this week after letting go of 325 employees , so the payments company is probably looking for a boost in one way or another.

One really good way to do that would be a boost to the eBay-owned company's revenue.

Thus, now that it's November (which officially or unofficially somewhere means we are now in the holiday season), PayPal is introducing a trio of holiday promotions.

Here's a rundown:

  • Price Matching: If the item you purchase is advertised for lower with any merchant within 30 days of purchase, you can receive a reimbursement for the difference. It doesn’t matter if you bought the item online or in stores. PayPal even boasts that airline tickets are included in this offer, explaining that tickets from the same carrier that drop in price within seven days of your purchase are eligible for price matching.
  • Free Return Shipping: If you change your mind about a gift you purchased via PayPal within 30 days and the merchant accepts returns but doesn’t cover return shipping, PayPal will offer complimentary return shipping. PayPal will send you a pre-paid shipping label within five days after you file your claim or refund the return shipping cost you already paid directly to your PayPal account.
  • Bill Me Later: Every purchase of $99 or more qualifies for six months special financing subject to credit approval.

PayPal shopping specialist Claudia Lombana noted in a blog post on Thursday that this is the first time the global e-commerce business has launched these holiday promotions.

Certainly, these are significant promotions that could cost PayPal a bunch. Free shipping and potential refunds for lower-priced items for millions of people during the holiday shopping season is no joke. But if they prove to be popular, then the payoff for PayPal could be big.

To make the most out of the holiday season, these deals will be available starting today through New Year's Eve (December 31).
