Slashdot: The New York Times has an article revealing a disturbing fact of workplace life: software applications software do an excellent job of distracting us. The endless bombardment of email notifications, pop-ups, and automatic updates, and not to mention those self-enforced distractions such as checking the weather forecast during a coffee break, is stripping away attention from work tasks. According to the Times, John Ratey, an associate professor at Harvard Medical School said, "It's so hard, because of the incredible possibilities we have that we've never had before, such as the Internet."
