Last December, the Peel universal remote control made its debut. Now, the fruit-shaped yet modern-looking home entertainment apparatus is now shipping.

In case you've forgotten about Peel, the Yves Behar-designed device enables devices running at least iOS 3.0 to act as a single universal remote control, working with TVs, DVD and Blu-ray players, DVR and set-top boxes, and more. The Peel is intended to be paired with a mobile app that brings up programming listings not only based on your local channel lineup, but also based on preferences and recommendations.

The Peel dongle has actually be available online for a few weeks now and just sprouted up in Apple retail locations this week. The mobile remote control app is available from iTunes for free. The Peel fruit itself costs $99.95 (with free shipping), and that also includes a C-sized battery and the Wi-Fi hub that connects to the router and a power outlet.

If you happen to be near an Apple Store in New York City, Peel reps will be conducting demonstrations all month long. Be sure to check location calendars. Check back soon for our hands-on review of the Peel!
