Philips to debut WAP phones early 2000

Fancy a Web phone? Nokia and Ericsson have announced them, now Philips joins the fray.

The first WAP enabled phones from Philips will be out early next year, the company has announced.

The company has just completed a licensing deal with Phone.com to use its UP.Browser microbrowser. The microbrowser will allow owners of the new Philips phones to access Web-based information through Wireless Application Protocol.

Nokia and Ericsson have already announced WAP enabled phones, and Nokia will the first to market next month with the Nokia 7110.
