Direct and plainly communicated information is rare in the IT space. Truth, honesty, and objectivity are even rarer. I've known Annrai O'Toole, CEO of Cape Clear Software Inc., for going on 10 years, and he stands out in my mind as one of the few consistently straight shooters in the business. He even seems to know what he's talking about, and -- even better -- can explain highly complex topics using good old plain English.
Annrai is also smart enough to be a salesman for his own business interests at any given point in time and space. But even given this acknowledged bias, his three-month old blog on issues of ESB and SOA makes for a refreshing perspective on an often too murky area.
From my perch, there are few more crucial technology and important business productivity issues than ESBs. How ESBs emerge in the market will play a huge role in the way that SOA as a paradigm is defined and implemented. The maturation of ESBs is a topic worth boning up on and tracking closely, from all the angles.
