[UPDATE: I told you so!!!!]

Despite Apple having actually come out and TOLD EVERYONE what to expect at the WWDC 2011 keynote this year, some outlets continue to dream about a surprise iPhone announcement.

Please, just let this nonsense die!

Here's what Apple said:

At the keynote, Apple will unveil its next generation software - Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS X; iOS 5, the next version of Apple's advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch; and iCloud, Apple's upcoming cloud services offering.

Clear and concise. WWDC 2011 keynote is about software. There will be no hardware announcement.

But despite this perfectly clear heads-up we're still getting stuff like this:

Of course, this could just be a glitch in AT&T's system that is ignoring stock of the back iPhone 4, but if you needed a story to keep that new iPhone at WWDC dream alive, this is most definitely it.

Oh please ... are you serious? A keynote is what, like two, maybe two and a half hours, and there are people who still believe that Apple could cover a major Mac OS  release, a major iOS release, iCloud AND a new iPhone in that time. No way, and a site like Cult of Mac should know this already and not get caught up in the nonsense/link-bait/wishful thinking/BS* (delete as appropriate). How long do they expect the frickin' keynote to go on for? New iPhone or not, my interest would wane after the third hour, no doubt.

I know that in recent years Apple's WWDC keynote has been seen as a launchpad for the iPhone, but WWDC keynote isn't always about hardware, in fact, if you take the long view, there are only hardware announcements about half of the time. Just because the lat few keynotes have had hardware announcements doesn't mean that new hardware is mandatory.

Sheesh, get over it people, there will be no new iPhone announcement at WWDC this year.
