Polycom reaches out to HP AppSystem for Microsoft Lync

Polycom works with HP and Microsoft for integrating video conferencing environments for better performance while lowering costs for enterprise customers.

Polycom is extending the presence of its RealPresence video conferencing platform with new interoperable solutions for select Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft products.

The first new collaborative effort to hit the market is the HP and Polycom Rich Media Communications solution, which combines Polycom's RealPresence video solutions with various video systems already using HP Networking technology for delivering higher-quality video conferencing for enterprise customers. This includes the addition of Microsoft Lync interoperability through Polycom's CX product line.

Microsoft Lync gets even further support with the second release, helping round out the unified communications elements with IM, presence, voice and video conferencing features.

The HP AppSystem for Microsoft Lync with Polycom RealPresence Video has been designed for environments built on the Microsoft Lync UC platform to make it more scalable with optimized HP networking, storage, servers, and services.

Another touch of HP can be seen as these solutions are based upon the HP FlexNetwork architecture, designed to offer a lower-latency, high-performing network optimized for video. When combined with Polycom's RealPresence Platform using H.264 High Profile technology, the network is supposed to use up to 50 percent less bandwidth than what is seen with competitive solutions.

By combining all these services and solutions from multiple vendors into an integrated platform, Polycom and its heavy-weight partners tout the advantage of paying a lower price with this cumulative option rather than more costs with multiple single vendors.

The HP and Polycom Rich Media Communications solution is available now via HP and other authorized distributors. The HP AppSystem for Microsoft Lync will follow later this spring when it launches in select countries in May.
