I'm getting credible (albeit off-the-record) confirmation that the rumored Google Chrome OS netbook spec as reported earlier this week by IBTimesis pretty close to the mark.

Here's the rumored spec:

  • NVIDIA Tegra 2.0 chipset
  • ARM CPU
  • 10.1-inch TFT 1,280 x 720 HD-ready multi-touch display
  • 64GB SSD
  • 2GB RAM
  • Other usual suspects: WiFi, 3G, webcam, USB, Ethernet

The Tegra/ARM combination is to be expected given that battery life is crucial, but a multi-touch display would be a real bonus, especially if this device retails for under $300.

The Google Chrome OS netbook is expected to launch in the holiday season of 2010. It will come with preinstalled Google apps such as Google Map, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, etc. According to Google it won't be possible to install other applications onto the device.
