in brief Sydney taxi company Premier Cabs has recently implemented a new Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony solution after its legacy equipment was coming to the end of its life.

The new Avaya-based system was installed by partner NSC, according to a statement issued by the integrator today. Premier Cabs has around 1,000 vehicles in Sydney, and houses its call centre in its Granville headquarters.

"The new IP telephony solution comprises an Avaya S8710 IP multi-connect system running Communication Manager 3.0.1 with dual S8710 media servers supplying a high level of reliability and uptime for the business," the statement said.

Other equipment included two G650 media gateways and Intuity Audix voice mail for up to 100 users, the statement continued. Premier Cabs is also using a call recording solution from Verint, connected to the VoIP system, and two UPS units in case of power outages.

"During the system cutover, Premier Cabs' call centre was offline for only four minutes," claimed NSC.
