Less is more
ProCurve Networking--the networking arm of Hewlett-Packard--has announced three new series of switches that tout greater ease of use and reduced noise operation.

The ProCurve 2810 series comes in 24 and 48 port configurations, and are designed for high-performance and secure 10/100 and Gigabit connectivity, especially in smaller wiring closets. According to ProCurve Networking, its quiet operation, shallow and stackable form factor make it ideal for businesses requiring advanced traffic prioritization and extensive traffic-monitoring capabilities in their networks.

The ProCurve 1800 Series offers entry-level, out-of-the-box Gigabit connectivity as well as simple setup and management capabilities via a simple Web interface--ideal for businesses that do not have extensive in-house networking expertise.

The ProCurve Switch 2510-24 is small enough to be used in wiring closets, or as a desktop switch. It is noiseless and is ideal for use in open spaces or public areas.

Prices for the ProCurve switch series start from S$344 (US$217) and include lifetime warranties.

Converge with 3com's all-in-one
3Com has introduced a switch targeted at SMBs that have limited in-house IT resources for managing wired and wireless networks.

According to the networking giant in a statement, the 3Com Unified Gigabit Wireless PoE Switch 24 enables businesses to manage all critical networking functions as one device because they are all integrated in a single unit. It includes Power over Ethernet (PoE), which supports voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

Designed for businesses that have between five and 250 users, the switch can power up to 24 devices, such as access points and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones.

The 3Com Unified switch can be managed via a Web interface that features an easy-to-use five-click setup wizard, or by the CLI, Telnet, Console and SNMP interfaces.

The 3Com Unified switch is priced at US$2,750.
