PVR shipments: 800K in 2001, 1.5 mln in 2002, 4.6 mln in 2003, 11.4 mln in 2004

Personal Video Recorder shipments hit the 800,000 mark in 2001, passed the 1 mln mark in 2002, finishing the year at just over 1.5 mln. In 2003, total worldwide unit shipments increased by a factor of three, reaching just over 4.6 mln. Driven by demand from cable and satellite TV service providers, and by the popularity of DVD-PVR combination devices in select countries, there were over 11.4 mln PVR unit shipments in 2004, InStat says.
