Acting Queensland Health CIO Ray Brown has been appointed to permanently fill the chief information officer role.

The CIO signed on permanently last week, according to a spokesperson for the department.

The department had announced in June that it was looking for someone to fill the position which was left vacant after former CIO Paul Summergreene's employment was terminated last year. Dr Richard Ashby held the role in an interim capacity until January when Brown took over as acting chief. The department had said that Brown was welcome to apply.

Summergreene had himself only been in the role for less than a year, where he moved from Queensland Transport.

Queensland Health's IT benefited richly from the state's most recent budget that saw over $200 million worth of technology spend allocated to the department.

The department has also been dealing with a major SAP payroll consolidation for which it has hired IBM.
