Reader responds: Novell column appreciated

Finally, a column on Novell that doesn't bow to Redmond! The fact is that Microsoft is distracted, NT 5.

Finally, a column on Novell that doesn't bow to Redmond!

The fact is that Microsoft is distracted, NT 5.0 is going to ship very late (if ever), and even then the jury is out about how well Active Directory will compete with the NDS that exists right now. Moab looks to be a great product, and most importantly, it is on schedule to ship in mid-98. If it does, and it is solid, Microsoft is in a whole lot of trouble.

Recently I've read quotes from VP's and IS managers who have said they are fed up with Microsoft's delays and are going with a combination of Netware/Unix instead of a planned NT installation. I think this trend can only increase in intensity. What many people seem to be overlooking (and Mr. Cooper did not) is that Novell has a huge opportunity. Now, we'll see if they take advantage.
