Reader response: Will Jobs put Intel inside?

Did everyone forget that Steve Jobs, the savior of Apple, the herald of the new G3, built a computer with a 486 in it? Not only that, but he did it to boost income on his own floundering company.

Did everyone forget that Steve Jobs, the savior of Apple, the herald of the new G3, built a computer with a 486 in it? Not only that, but he did it to boost income on his own floundering company. Has anyone considered the possibility that he might try the same thing again?

Why else court Microsoft? And the whole thing with the CompUSA "Apple MiniStores" has already been tried -- at CompUSA! I remember helping to tear down that eyesore hovering over the special Apple section when it as decided Apple computers weren't all that different from other systems we sold. Apple sure wanted us to believe their platform is so different the sales staff has to be specially trained. Trained on how to con the customer into buying a computer backed by a dying company. Crabb is right: today's Apple will do anything to stay afloat, even the wrong thing. More power to them: Free Market Rules.
