RealNames has announced plans to lay off one-third of its employees by the end of the year. But the company, whose simplified Web addressing system bypasses URLs, insists that's good news. RealNames CEO Keith Teare said the latest round of cuts, which will reduce the company's head count to 130 employees, is the result of a major restructuring and a fourth round of funding worth $46.5 million. So far this year, RealNames has reduced its work force by 60 percent through layoffs and attrition. -- Paul Festa, Special to ZDNet News
