Report: PC shipments fall in Europe

Western European PC shipments were down 11 percent, while PC shipments across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) fell by 6 percent, the firm said Thursday. Of the top five EMEA PC makers--Compaq Computer, Dell Computer, Fujitsu Siemens, Hewlett-Packard and IBM--only Dell saw an increase in shipments.

Meanwhile, Compaq, IBM and Fujitsu-Siemens saw double-digit percentage declines in shipments of 18.8 percent, 30.4 percent and 23.9 percent, respectively. HP maintained shipments around the same level. Dell increased shipments by 5.6 percent. As a result, it increased its share to 8.6 percent of the market, within a few points of Compaq's 11.4-percent market share in the third quarter, Gartner said. --John G. Spooner, ZDNet News
