review:ed updates - New videos and barely a mention of iPads

Yes, there are other things happening in ed tech besides new shiny things from Cupertino.
Written by Christopher Dawson, Contributor
Yeah, yeah, I know, the big news for the last two weeks and the weeks to come has been and will be the new iPad. Or the iPad 3. Or the iPad HD. Or whatever. And yes, I pre-ordered one. What was I going to do? Not buy one? I tell myself that I didn't have a choice - the high resolution will significantly impact the apps and content that my company is developing for users and that I'm developing for a variety of projects. I have some swampland in Florida for sale, too. All that aside, there has actually been a fair amount of ed tech news in the last couple of weeks worth thinking about that has virtually nothing to do with shiny new things from Apple. Kirsten Winkler and I covered them on our weekly review:ed webcasts. We even had a real lawyer weigh in on the Kno-Cengage lawsuit. And yes, Apple came up more than a few times, but that's a story in and of itself about the consumerization of IT, even in education. Kirsten and I could talk for hours about this stuff, so the embedded videos below also have download and podcast links so you can listen to these later. We'll be taping another episode tomorrow featuring Jason Perlow talking hardware, tablets, ebooks, the DOJ/Apple/textbook publisher price fixing mess, and the business of ed tech. And yes, we'll be talking about the new iPad, but perhaps not in the way you'd expect. Subscribe to the podcasts below to catch the new episode early next week or check back on my review:ed ZDNet page on Tuesday.
