RFID tag printer on the way from IBM

Brief: The hardware and services firm is explanding its RFID offerings
Written by ZDNet UK, Contributor

IBM wants a bigger piece of the RFID action, announcing last week its plans to sell a printer that can produce both traditional bar codes and RFID tags.

However, there is no confirmation yet on the shipping dates of the printers, an IBM spokesperson told ZDNet Asia.

Big Blue also launched a consulting service, aimed at helping companies that are deploying RFID to better understand customer privacy issues. The service includes assessment, design and implementation of RFID, as well as development of policies, design principles, communication, employee education and awareness programs.

The consultants are primarily based at IBM's headquarters in the US, "where the focus on privacy issues is more intense", said the IBM spokesperson.
